Configurable Vertical Farming & Harvesting System
Quicksilver has developed a portable, modular, vertical farming solution that benefits from both advanced composite materials and sophisticated process control. It has been designed for individual use, corporate production farming and disaster relief applications. With vertical modules used in its assembly, overall heights can exceed 50ft (15m). The standard ‘foot print’ is 7′-6″ x 19′-6″ (2286mm x 5944mm), allowing two (2) units to be shipped inside a conventional 40ft (12.2m) ‘high-cube’ shipping container.
The fully self-contained solution that can ‘blend’ aeroponic, hydroponic and aquaponic farming techniques. The system can be completely manually maintained or with optional ‘levels’ of sophistication become fully automated. Being modular by design, each level of sophistication may be added at any time. Furthermore, the system has been designed to operate completely off grid, utilizing either solar, wind or both for power generation.
With its integrated SCADA human machine interface (HMI) process parameters may be fully defined that include, but are not limited to, humidity, temperature, irrigation, PH and NPK, light, carousel rotation, tray discharge and a host of optional sophisticated plant and process monitoring and robotic planting, cultivation and harvesting technologies. Additionally, our controller may be networked with other process equipment and host control systems to monitor plant production and quality.
Being modular, individual plant volumes may be accommodated by the flexible vertical tray spacing that can range from as little as 8″ (203mm) to over 24″ (610mm) and the number of plants per tray spaced in the “XY” pattern win an individual plant area from 4″x4″ (102mm x 102mm) per plant to over 12″x 12″ (305mm x 305mm).
Any commercial plant root medium may be used within our modular tray. In the event that certain plants require ‘moving hydration’ (example wasabi) the trays may be ‘inclined’ to specific angles to establish proper flow rates. In such a case, Quicksilver’s ‘cascading water system’ provides for the complete machine to recycle and clean 95% to 97% of the water.
As far as the aquaponics systems, both certain types of fresh water fish and shrimp may be integrated to plants being farmed in a symbiotic production environment. Cluster farming optimizes available square footage by nesting individual systems in a network that affords the grower flexible crop production (example: radishes, lettuce, tomatoes, and other complimentary produce, offering the grower diversification of crop.
